Inova Schar Cancer Institute
Arts and Healing Program
Hope Sculpture Project
Smith Center Artists in Residence (AIR) Program at Inova Schar Cancer Institute is very pleased to introduce their latest project: the HOPE Sculpture. This new installation will be situated inside the main entrance doors of the Cancer Institute and serve as a welcoming tribute to the courage and commitment of those who have been affected in some way by cancer. The sculpture is intended to focus on gratitude, hope, and healing and will feature original art created by patients, caregivers, staff, and volunteers. Each piece of art and the story behind it will also be displayed in an online gallery for family and friends to see and share.
Do you have a loved one who has been a patient at Inova Schar? Has your life been touched by someone associated with the Institute? Do you have a message to share about hope and healing? We invite you to join in the HOPE Sculpture project - share your story to inspire and encourage others who come to the Institute.
Everyone is welcome to participate: patients of all ages, caregivers, family members, clinicians, and friends. No art skills are needed; the AIR team members will provide materials and guidance to help you express your story or message using the medium of your choice, such as knitting, fabric, collage, or painting. Over 100 individual pieces will be displayed at a time on four letters of HOPE. To get involved and for more information, please contact scott@smithcenter.org. We look forward to having you join us!
